FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- March 13, 2003
Fox Sports boxing show helps in search for missing childrenTwo missing Texas girls will be featured March 16 on Fox Sports Net's national-broadcast of Sunday Night Fights.
Sabrina Allen, 5, of Austin, Texas, has been missing since April 21, 2002. She has straight blond hair and blue eyes. She has a mole on the outside of her right knee and a small scar on the bridge of her nose. She is believed to be with her non-custodial mother, Dara Marie Llorens.
Opal Jo'Dace Jennings, 10, of Saginaw, Texas, has straight brown hair and blue eyes. She was taken from her front yard by an adult male, possibly white or Hispanic. She was last seen wearing a white shirt and flowers, purple shorts with cargo pockets and pink Barbie sneakers.
Bob Steinfeld, a producer with the Fox boxing program, is working with Child Protection Education of America, a national missing children nonprofit based in Tampa, Fla., to show the pictures of missing children during each of the show's broadcasts. The partnership started May 19, 2002, during the Fox's last season of boxing.
Fox Sports got involved when light heavyweight boxer Derrick Harmon, working with Child Protection Education of America, wore a picture of a missing child to his Sunday Night Fights appearance in April 2002. Fox showed the picture of the missing child multiple times during the broadcast, also giving CPEA's toll-free number and Web site. Steinfeld wanted to remain involved with the issue and contacted CPEA about providing new pictures for each of Fox's upcoming boxing broadcasts.
Child Protection Education of America assists parents and law enforcement officers involved with missing children cases by offering free photograph distribution. CPEA also offers safety programs, including fingerprinting events using digital technology.
Local broadcast of the fights is usually at 6 p.m. but check local listings for Fox Sports. For more information, see the flyer or call 1-866-USA-CHILD. For more information about CPEA, see their Web site at www.find-missing-children.org. Pictures of the children are available from the Web site.
